L-R Jeff Kilgere, “Peanut” Lane, and Ken Kilcrease were the mens pumper race team for Pineland VFD with the best time. The East Texas Fireman’s and Fire Marshal’s Association held their annual meeting Saturday with three hours of classes, followed by a very nice donated lunch for the members, then after a team captains meeting, the pumper races. Sarah Smith 4-H Club Manager and Channelle Svehla Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Agent gives a class at the local 4-H meeting this week in preparation of upcoming District and State competitions. Channelle taught about tree identification through studying the shapes of the leaves and placement on the stem. Sarah provided tips on photographing various plants/images using different techniques of focus, angles, light to capture more interesting photos. The kids were well engaged and had lots of fun learning. The District competition will encompass fall foliage, and the State competition will be concerning natural resources.
