First Place winners Anthony “Poppa” White and Dustin Gordon with boat captain Steven English take First Place and Big Bass at the Hemphill Hornet Bass Club tournament Saturday at Lost Frontier with a total weight of 8.71 pounds, anchored by the Big Bass of the day of 3.64 pounds. 13 teams competed with 5 teams weighing in fish. Second place went to Conor McDaniel and Sam Welch with 4.02 pounds, Third place to Alex Bishop with 1.69 pounds, Fourth place to Landen Jackson and Caden Wright with 1.63 pounds, and Fifth place to Kane Ross with 1.60 pounds.

City Hall Set to Start Demolition

Hemphill City Hall held it’s monthly meeting on Tuesday the 18th, and after opening with a prayer and pledges, moved on to approving the minutes of previous meeting, the accounts payable check register, gas power cost adjustment of $0.228 per ccf for October, and electric power cost adjustment of $0.05262 per kwh for October. Approval was also given to the City of Hemphill Public Funds Report for Quarter of July thru September. Then discussion was had about considering moving some of the Cities funds around in order to receive a higher yield for the City.

Ag Day in Sabine Co...

Sabine County fourth graders (from Hemphill, West Sabine, and Brookeland) enjoyed the Texas Farm Bureau Ag Day at the Hemphill fairgrounds Wednesday. Brian Thomas, Texas Farm Bureau agent stated that this is the 20th year that Texas Farm bureau has hosted this event. Brian says he hopes that the kids can learn how important agriculture is and how it effects most everything in their day to day lives. The kids visited several booth displays ranging from Fiona the milk cow (and learned about dairy farming), the Texas Farm Bureau trailer where they learned about crops, livestock, water and soil, saw some farm animals, learned about bees and how honey is made, Texas Parks & Wildlife (complete with a 3 foot baby alligator), Hemphill Garden Club, Forestry Service, and more. First Baptist Church, Hemphill, will sponsor their annual Fall Fest on Mon., Oct. 31, from 6pm-8pm, in the Family Life Center. Come out for a night filled with games, candy, food and fun for the whole family.

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Paul A Robbins as District Attorney of the 1st Judicial District in Sabine and San Augustine Counties for a term set to expire December 31, 2024 or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified.
