Ponderings of a Concerned Citizen

Body
Advances in reproductive technology are opening major doors, and with them, major moral and ethical questions. (Part 2) Our ability to manipulate human DNA is quickly becoming a reality and so is the technology to grow human beings in a lab. What is fascinating, however, is that we do not see at-large public discourse over the moral and ethical problems this technology brings. This lack of discourse is not a good thing as these biotechnologies are reopening the door to the eugenics movement.

Bryce’s Landing is No More

Body
Bryce’s Landing was once a favorite fish restaurant among the locals for many years, where lots of fond and cherished memories of enjoying the fine food with family and friends were made. But the business ran it’s course and closed it’s doors for the final time a few years back. Many of the locals were hoping that another good restaurant would finally take its place, but that will not be the case, which saddens so many locals.

Buttermilk

Body
I don’t like buttermilk. I love it. I first drank some of it when I was three years old and my parents and my 5 year old brother Bill lived in an old unpainted shack a few miles south of Center, Texas. Every week, my Aunt Belvin would bring us a gallon of fresh churned buttermilk and some fresh butter.

Fesco & Ashwort Win $100,000

Body
The Brandon Belt $100,000 Grand Slam bass tournament started on a very windy Thursday with over 220 teams vying for the coveted $100,00 first place prize. On day 3, Championship Saturday, the field had been whittled down to the top 20 teams with Michael Fesco (boat captain) and Holden Ashwort (team partner) sitting in first place. At noon on that third day Michael and Holden had no fish in the boat, but by the 3:00 weigh-in time they had not only found them, they bagged 26.7 pounds for a 3 day total of 73.84 pounds to win the tournament. Lake Sam Rayburn proves once again that it is a world class fishery. Congratulations to Michael and Holden!

The Tiger hoop squads hit the road to Chireno January 10 to round out the first round of district play and the Lady Tigers hit the court first. They faced a formidable foe in the state number #4 Chireno Lady Owls, and the home standing Lady Owls proved every bit as formidable as they raced out to a 17-7 lead after one on the strength of three triples from Venegas.
