“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” John 12:46 In the late forties, we moved to East Center (Texas) just two fences and a pasture from Mama, our Preacher/Grandmother Sister Oleatha Richards. Mama and Paw Paw lived next to The Pentecostal Church that she pastored.

WS Student Council...

Body
The West Sabine High School and Junior High Student Council in conjunction with First Baptist Church Pineland and East Mayfield Baptist Church in Hemphill collected 563 pairs of new socks to donate to Helping Hands in Hemphill. We held a competition at school throughout the month of October which we called Socktober to see which grade level could collect the most socks. Our 6th grade class collected 106 pairs with the sophomore class coming in close behind with 105 pairs. The winning class received a pizza party for their efforts from the Student Council. We were extremely happy to contribute to Helping Hands. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this establishment, it is located next door to El Tio’s. Ms. Linda Corley will be happy to show you around.

Veteran’s Brunch...

Body
The Hemphill VFW Post 10351 hosted a Veterans Day Brunch for all veterans and their families on Saturday, November 11th. A large turnout of veterans and their families enjoyed a very nice meal. There were some very nice door prizes given away that consisted of several quilts and other nice prizes. But the most enjoyed portion of the day was the entertainment provided by none other than Hemphill's own Lucas Moody! Lucus had the crowd mesmerized with his signing and fiddling talents. If you have never heard this young man (only in Jr. High) sign or play, keep an eye on FB (or ask his dad, Dr. Chad Moody) to find out where he will be performing next and make plans to go see him. The veterans and their families surely enjoyed their day at the VFW!
