The San Augustine Master Gardeners will host a free community educational event on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the San Augustine Methodist Church fellowship hall. Ann Strong, Botanist with the Wildlife Diversity Program at Texas Parks and Wildlife, will present a program on ‘Rare Species and Pollinator Plants’, and ‘Drought Tolerant Plants in Texas’. Ann Strong has worked in plant conservation for more than fifteen years and earned her Master’s Degree in Biology from Texas State University where she studied reproductive biology of South Texas’ endangered Star Cactus. She then moved to St. Louis, MO and worked as Project Coordinator for the Center of Plant Conservation, a national organization that works to protect and conserve rare flora of the United States. She has been in her present position with Texas Parks and Wildlife since 2015 seeking and learning about the State’s vast assortment of plants. Her favorite plants are small ones which bear fruit and flowers and are best viewed under magnification. This program is free to the public and everyone is invited.
