When I was in college, one of my favorite things to do was hang out at the airport.

VFW Awards to FFA

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10351 hosted what is believed to be the largest (154 players) crowd of Bingo players during their Thursday night Bingo games. The proceeds from the VFW Thursday night bingo games allows for the many donations and support for Sabine County organizations. Last Thursday night VFW Post 10351 showed that support by presenting $500 checks to both the Hemphill and West Sabine FFA organizations!

After 34 years in practice as Hemphill’s favorite optometrist, Dr. Gary Golden has closed his practice and will be joining his brother, Dr. Dixon Golden at Texas State Optical in Nacogdoches two days a week. Dr. Gary will be driving back and forth on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for appointments and he and his wife, Jeanette, will maintain their Hemphill residency. Dr. Golden would like to recognize longtime office manager Joann Beasley for her service and dedication over the years, “She became family to all of us, and this move is bitter sweet for us. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve this wonderful community over the years. Please know we are here for you. Just give us a call and we will set you up with an appointment. 936-5642634.”

On Sept. 29, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will celebrate its 125th birthday, marking a significant milestone for the organization that still stands as the largest and most established organization of combat veterans in the United States. Headquartered in Kansas City, the VFW was founded in 1899 by 13 veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection.

God is moving in Rosevine! Come get your miracle! Rosevine United Pentecostal Church will be continuing revival this week with Bro. Gentry Jordan. Wednesday-Sept. 25, Thursday- Sept. 26, and Sunday-Sept. 29. Weeknight services begin at 7:00 PM. Sunday Mornings begin at 10:00 AM and Sunday Evenings begin at 6:30 PM. Our church is located just off Hwy 103 at 8285 Gravelhill Rd, Bronson, in the Rosevine community, pastored by Rev. Gordon Simmons.

City Looking at More Grants

The Hemphill City Council held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 17th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flags, approved the consent agenda that included the minutes of the prior meeting, the accounts payable check register for August 2024, the gas power cost adjustment of $0.118 per ccf for September 2024, and the electric power cost adjustment of $0.02420 per kwh for September 2024.

Texas Forestry Museum’s Fall Festival & I-Spy Halloween Trail

The Texas Forestry Museum invites you and your family to Fall Festival. On Friday, October 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm the museum will have a photo booth, a craft, and cotton candy for the whole family to enjoy. Also, there will be plenty of fun fall games for the kids such as pick a pop, plinko, pumpkin ring toss, and more. The event is free to the public. The event is sponsored by Walmart and Raven Environmetal Services. Photos will be taken at the event for promotional materials.
