Pet Talk

Body
Thump- thump-swoosh-thump. Nothing may be scarier than being told that there has been a murmur detected in the heart of your cherished pet, but with proper monitoring and advice from a veterinarian, this irregular sound will have no power over the joyful well-being of your furry friend.

NOT WORTH HIS SALT

Body
Has anyone ever said about you, “He/she is just not worth their salt.” This is an interesting statement. What about salt, and what it is worth? To me, salt is a very cheap mineral. One can purchase a box of salt at the grocery story for less than a dollar. So, what’s the deal about salt being worth so much?

Future Me

Body
I’m usually pretty good about doing things I don’t want to do. I’ve been alive long enough to know that getting starting is always the hardest part. But nothing is harder for me to start than doing weights.

McMahan Chapel Day announced: celebrating 191 years

Body
Saturday, October 12, 2024 we will celebrate 191 years of continuous worship at McMahan Chapel at 10:30am. That service will be followed by a covered dish lunch in the Jack and Charlsie Maund Event Center. Our new pastor, Scott Catchot will welcome guest speaker Rev. Steve Woody, District Superintendent of the Northeast District of the Texas Annual Conference. Rev. Woody has been in pastoral ministry for 37 years. He has served in many conference leadership positions. Our guest pianist will be Steve Adams from our partner church, Kelty’s UMC. Our Special Music will be performed by our own pastor, Scott Catchot. We look forward to a service that will interest everyone. If you haven’t already done so, check out our Facebook page (McMahan Chapel 1833) and our new website (mcmahanchapel.com). If you’ve never been to McMahan Chapel please check out our museum and Prayer Garden. One of the first circuit riders, Littleton Fowler, loved McMahan Chapel so much that he asked that he be buried under the pulpit of the Chapel. As we worship in our 4th building, each one had to be built in the same spot to ensure that his grave not be disturbed. And it was just this past year that we were able to determine the origin of our Stained Glass Windows. Be sure to ask us about that discovery and we can talk to you about the ”6 toes”. To reach McMahan Chapel from San Augustine, take State Highway 21 East 10 miles, turn right onto Spur 35 for 2 miles. From Milam, take State Highway 21 West approximately 10 miles turning left onto Spur 35.
