Oh, Deer!

Body
It was dusk, as I made my way home. At that time of day, it is harder to see. I just wanted to get home, safely. Even directly in front of the car, everything was shrouded in dusky gray. All the way home, I pray. “Lord keep the deer off of the road. I don’t mind seeing one. But, I don’t want to hit it.”

Hemphill Church of Christ

Body
Last week our local newspaper ran an article that said the church of Christ has a new “pator.” We all know that they meant to say “pastor.” They just made a mistake, that’s all. No big deal. I know they were talking about me. While I appreciated their mention of our coming to Hemphill, it is simply not true that the church of Christ has a new “pastor.” What do I mean?

Let them be Little

Body
I am the favorite aunt, great-aunt, grandmother who always brings playdough to birthday parties. Most times, I am met with glaring eyes from mothers or dads of toddlers and young children. I know what they are thinking. They are planning to dispose of this sticky concoction that gets stuck in the rug or on the bottom of their shoe or eaten by the dog. But, I beg them, I beg you to learn to love playdough. Embrace it!

America’s Constitutional divide

Body
If one thing can be said about the Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe v. Wade, it is that the decision has arguably sparked more national debate than any case in the past century. Unfortunately, much of the debate has devolved into bitter and hostile social media arguments akin to teenagers arguing over a video game. We would be better off using this time to enlighten ourselves on the debate of “living constitutionalism” than lashing out in anger at one another.
