by Bill Dodson Sabine County Reporter It may be the heat making people crazy, since it seems as though it’s been extraordinarily hot across most of the country. Something is causing it, but, just in case, let’s hope the heat wave breaks, or hope some of these folks find a good shade tree to stand under.

WE ARE THERE I’m not the easiest person to buy a present for, just ask my daughters. Anything I might want is more than likely out of their budget or they are unsure if I can use something they do think up.

It was early Sunday morning, as my sister and I boarded the big tour bus. Because of the necessity of keeping to our schedule; we would have Sunday School, on board the bus. Since traffic was so heavy, in the city, it wouldn’t start until we were on the open road.

Shortly after World War I the Gold Star Mothers Club was formed in the United States to provide support for mothers that lost sons or daughters in the war. The name came from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in the window of their homes. The Service Flag had a star for each family member in the military. Living servicemen were represented by a blue star, and those who had lost their lives were represented by a gold star. On the last Sunday of September, Gold Star Mother’s Day is observed in the U.S. in their honor.
