School days are rambling our way! August 1st is the first day for teachers, with children joining us on the 10th. I have been busy working in my classroom, preparing for the laughter and excitement of children. I love school. I love greeting my class every morning at my door with a choice of a handshake, a pinkie wave, or a hug. Sometimes, just for fun, we add in a bow or a curtsy.

Our local library hosted an event on Monday for students from 3-8th grade. The TAME trailer set up in the parking lot and had activities that involved science, technology, math and more. TAME stands for the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering. I’m seen as a minority because I’m a girl, although, in my family, we girls are majorly awesome.

Judge Melton opened the regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Sabine County on Monday, July 25th, at 8:30 a.m., followed by prayer by Brother Troy, and pledge of allegiance, then approval of the last meetings minutes and departmental reports.

The 40 foot long TAME Mobile Science Learning trailer was at J R Huffman Public Library in Hemphill today, and the kids were in awe at what they saw. Pictured above are Adelyn Miller, Emberlee Winslow, and instructor Sherry Thibodeaux. The trailer contains over 20 different interactive exhibits to capture the children’s interest and imagination, in hopes of steering todays youth toward careers in science. A lot of interesting events have occurred during the month of July, so we are going to mention them, along with several historical happenings, some you may find of interest, some, maybe not. You be the judge.

The regular meeting of the Hemphill City Hall took place on July 19, and opened with prayer and pledge of allegiance, followed by acceptance of the consent agenda which consisted of minutes from last meeting, accounts payable check register, gas power cost adjustments, electric power cost adjustments, and establishing the Sabine County Reporter as the official newspaper of the City of Hemphill.

Tuesday evening, July 19th, the West Sabine School Board met and received updated information on how the schools finished the previous school year and are preparing for the next. A couple items of positive news came out during the meeting.
