Elmon D. “Don” Cassel

Elmon D. 'Don' Cassel, 71, of Alvin, Texas passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at his residence. Don was born in Center, on March 4, 1952 to Vinon Elmon Cassel and Johnnie Faye Steele Cassel. He was a 20 year resident of Alvin, having previously resided in LaPorte, Texas and was owner/operator of a fabrication company. He loved racecars and boats and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Shane Cassel; and sister, Dianne Cassel.

Earnestine “Tina” Nobles

Earnestine 'Tina' Nobles, 75, of Broaddus passed away April 21, 2023, at her residence. She was born July 6, 1947, in Jasper to parents Gladys (Locke) and Johnnie Walker Bevil and was a graduate of Jasper High School. For more than 25 years, she had lived in the Broaddus area where she was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church. She loved her family. Mrs. Nobles had a great fondness for the outdoors with many hours of pleasure hunting and fishing, as well as all types of lawn work. She had a great love for animals and often just spent time 'in the stand' just watching animals when not even hunting.

Floyd Raymond Newman

Floyd Raymond Newman, 81 of Pineland, passed away Saturday April 22, 2023. Raymond was born on January 15, 1942 in Pert, to Jimmie and Nancy Newman. Hef moved to the Houston area as a toddler with his parents and siblings. As a teenager he met Jackie and they were married in October of 1959. They had four children together.

Sandra Jo Heller, 58, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at her residence. Sandra was born in Port Arthur, Texas on June 24, 1964 to Joe Edward Best and Gwendolyn Dunn Best. She worked for many years as a hairdresser in her shop, Curl Up and Dye, that was located in Milam, Texas. She was an artist and enjoyed gardening.

Chad “Rosco” Joseph Moroski

Chad Joseph Moroski, also known as 'Rosco' to his friends and 'CPaw' to his grandsons, died Wednesday morning, March 22, 2023 of an apparent heart attack. Chad was born in Harvard, Illinois on July 6, 1969 to James Steve 'Jim' Moroski and Dolores J. 'Lori' Zalesny Moroski. He and his family lived in Lake Villa, Illinois before moving to Sabine County in 1974. He attended school at Hemphill ISD and was a member of the graduating class of 1987. After graduation, he worked as a residential carpenter. He was a member of The Refuge Church in Milam and also attended Only Believe Ministries in Hemphill.

Othel Dayle “O.D.” Huff

Othel Dayle 'O. D,' Huff, 90, of Hemphill, passed away Tuesday, April 11,2023 at Parkwood in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas. He was born in Cameron, LA on May 1, 1932 to Cone Johnson Huff and Amelia Zu Nunez. He served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United State Army. After the military, he moved to Groves, where he worked in the Petroleum Refineries as a Supervisor for Texaco. In 1995, he moved from Groves to Hemphill to be near the lakes that he loved to fish and the woods where he loved to hunt. He volunteered as a firefighter where he had the opportunity to serve and be a chaplain for Groves, Pineland and Pendleton Harbor Volunteer Fire Departments. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV and also Pendleton Assembly of God. Over the years, he had been an Elder in his church in Groves and a Deacon at Harvest Assembly.
