Saturday Jan 11th, is a chance to see 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' at the Hemphill Little Theatre at 2pm & 7pm. There will be a $5 charge for Adults, but children under 12 are free when accompanied by an Adult. Come out for a great movie.

Deep East Texas Legislators to be Honored in Austin

Deep East Texas will be in the spotlight in Austin on the eve of the 89th Session of the Texas Legislature. The 2025 Deep East Texas Legislative Reception will be held Monday January 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Capitol Ballroom of the Royal Sonesta Stephen F. Austin Hotel. The Texas Legislature opens the following day at noon.

To A Year Of Even Betters When my boys were very young, they got into their first squabble. Gray had just received Legos for his birthday and his younger brother wanted to help. As parents, we know how that “help” often goes. Big brother didn’t want it. Dane’s “help” ruined it. Tears ensued. In a split second, I realized I had to make this a teachable moment. Instead of punishing Dane for his good intentions or Gray for his justified frustrations, I told them that what we do one time can be done better a second time.

Beekeepers The Sabine County Beekeepers will meet for our monthly meeting on Monday January 6th 6:30pm. We meet every 1st Monday of the month at 6:30PM at the Sabine County Extension Agents office in Hemphill, located in the Brookshire Brothers parking lot next to Family Dollar.

Gifts to Veterans

On Monday, December 23, Thom 'Shorty' Warren, Veterans Service Officer for Sabine County made the rounds at Hemphill Care Center and Legacies Rehabilitation taking Christmas presents to the veterans who reside there. The veterans each received some nice warm socks, and a fancy embroidered cap commemorating the branch of service they served in, and a beautiful T-shirt. Merry Christmas to our veterans, and Thank You for your service!

Vehicle Safety Inspection Changes Take Effect January 2025

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds Texans that changes to the state’s Vehicle Safety Inspection Program – which eliminate most vehicle safety inspections – begin on Jan. 1, 2025. These changes are due to House Bill 3297. The bill was passed by the 88th Legislature and signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott in 2023, abolishing the Vehicle Safety Inspection Program for non-commercial vehicles.
