Lieutenant Governor Dan Patick released committee assignments for the 89th Legislature. Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) was once again appointed to chair the Senate Transportation Committee and was reappointed to the Senate Finance, Business and Commerce, and Local Government Committees.

Madeleine Ince, granddaughter of Tom and Cindy Ince of Hemphill, was the Grand Champion winner for her division in the “Small Quilts” division at the Travis County Youth Show on January 17, 2025! Madeleine is 10 years old and in 4th grade at Regents School of Austin. Madeleine is the great granddaughter of Bill and Janice Speights of Hemphill, who gifted her with a sewing machine!

Someone Came From Very Far Away

I think the first and most necessary thing is to introduce myself. My name is Agnes, and I’m a journalist and writer from Barcelona, the Olympic city. I had never traveled to Texas before, much less to its forested areas. In fact, until recently, I didn’t even know Texas had forests. But some time ago, I came across a viral news story published in various European media outlets. They talk about it as a story of spite. A woman had placed an ad in a newspaper called the Sabine County Reporter congratulating her husband and his lover on the baby they were expecting.
