My Five Cents

Body
This time of year reminds us of the importance of faith, family, and community. And with a new year just ahead, I am grateful for the trust you place in me and the opportunity to represent East and Southeast Texas. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Here are five things happening around your state: TPWD releases guidance on the use of drones for hunting and fishing This month, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) released guidance addressing the use of drones, also known as unmanned aircraft systems, in hunting and fishing activities. After reviewing federal law and consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement, TPWD concluded that the use of drones to take or attempt to take wildlife, or to aid in fishing, is prohibited. In response to one of the most common questions the department has received, TPWD clarified that drones may not be used to deploy bait for fishing purposes. Under federal law, “fish or wildlife” includes essentially all wild animals, whether on land or in the water, and applies regardless of whether the animal is alive or dead. The term “take” is also defined broadly and includes not only killing an animal, but pursuing, capturing, or attempting to collect it in any way. For more information, visit https://tpwd.texas.gov.

Peace on earth...

Those days cotton consumed our lives. We ate, lived and breathed the dirty white fibers attached to scraggly stalks spread out in clay fields for miles around. At least that's the way it seemed to me. I was nine years old and hard times cloaked our country like a cold rain, soaking through every thread of life.

Delivers Christmas Joy...

Body
Outdoor Freedom Network has supported Visits for Veterans in our lake area Nursing Homes for Christmas over the last five years. We have supported our R.S.V.P volunteer Jose Narvaez a Vietnam Veteran and Marine who has been bringing gifts and cheer to our Nursing home Veterans, placing flags at Veterans Cemeteries for Memorial Day and even driving across Texas to make sure a Veteran turning 100 had a celebration. This year OFN has extended this program to San Augustine and Sabine Counties to help these Veterans have a Merry Christmas. Gift Bags with fleece blankets, socks, tasty treats and their Branch Hat is always a hit. We have around 70 Veterans in our four county area many without family said Terry Sympson OFN Founder.
