The Postscript

Body
I am delighted to report that my mother has come around. I have been lobbying my mother for months to take pity on a little red squirrel who had acquired a great fondness for her, demonstrating his devotion by digging up all her flowerpots and gazing at her for minutes at a time through the window.

Children and Church

Body
It seems that children see things regarding church through kids’ eyes, and they don’t always hear it right. One of my earliest memories is that of being in church with my father, Cecil. I recall that I kept trying to talk out loud during the service and Dad would tell me to be quiet. After church Dad was holding me in his arms when Bro. Russell Smith walked up and asked me how I liked the service. I replied, “Well, I didn’t like it.” Bro. Smith inquired as to why I didn’t. I told him, “Because nobody gets to say anything but you.”

Sparks and Gravity

Body
I sank into my recliner, my coffee and toast already in place. My reading for this morning, in the Old Testament was in Job. Ugh! Not my favorite book. All the accusing and fault finding, from so called friends; I can live without. Could I just skip the pity party and go on to the happy ending? No? Must be something here that I need to read.

House Resolution 8408, entitled the Respect for Marriage Act (RFMA), requires each state government to recognize the marriage laws of every other state.

Captured by Apaches at age eleven

Body
Herman Lehmann, the man shown in this photo, was born in 1859 in Loyal Valley, Texas, which is 23 miles north of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. In May 1870, when he had never been to school and spoke only German, Herman, who was almost eleven years of age, and a younger brother, Willie, were captured by raiding Apaches; two younger sisters who were with them were not taken.
