Body
The Hemphill Garden Club held its monthly meeting on Thursday, February 15th. and the guest speaker was Jim Tyree speaking about Bucket Tomatoes. Jim claims his bucket tomatoes out-perform his ground planted tomatoes by a wide margin. By drilling a few holes in the bottom sides of the bucket (then putting pumice rock (or smaller pea gravel) to facilitate the extra water drainage and to help keep the bucket from blowing over. Tomatoes do not like to be too wet. Just some of Jims tomatoes tips are: Consistent watering, planting deep (up past the little hairs on the stem), fertilizing well, pruning when needed, make sure your tomatoes get 6-8 hours of sun, and talk to them often. Jim has lots of tips and information for successful tomato harvests, and is happy to share any information you would like. He is a member of the Hemphill Garden Club.
