Memories and Musings

Body
The recent holidays provided an opportunity for us to visit several Baptist churches in other towns. It is sometimes good to see how the churches in other locales conduct their worship services. These visits helped confirm what I have suspected for several years – churches are not like they used to be. Things in the ecclesiastical world have, and continue to, evolve into unrecognizable services for those of us who grew up in the 1950s. It is obvious that many traditions are now completely gone, some almost gone, and new ideas permeate services which are designed to attract the under thirty church-goer. We “older” folk must adjust whether we like it or not.

Not Available!

Body
Things just don’t go as planned, sometimes. I got a notice, on my phone, that my credit card payment was due. I knew I had paid it a couple of weeks, ago. But, it was late Friday afternoon. So, I couldn’t do anything about it. It took me a long time on Monday, to get through to it. But, when I did, my payment wasn’t due, yet (It was not my credit card company. It was a scammer.)

Fincher’s Corner

Body
Following assembly directions is something I’ve never done really well. Years ago I ordered a Color Photo Enlarger. I was so anxious to get it that I wrestled it from the UPS driver and immediately began the assembly. But after a couple of frustrating hours, I did what I should’ve done to begin with: I found the instruction booklet, followed it step by step, and… Walla! …the parts fit perfectly!

Postscript

Body
My husband, Peter, and I are headed out to Mexico again, and before we do, I thought it was a good time of year to check in with some folks I care about, to see how 2024 had been treating them so far.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, POST 10351 HEMPHILL

Body
Our organization is growing slowly, but we must have more members for this to continue. We are committed to providing service and assistance to our veterans and this community. The more members we have the better we can serve here at home and build our strength of influence in Washington DC. This helps VFW to keep and increase benefits for all veterans now and in the future. These we earned by serving and protecting this country.

Joanne Shofner

Body
Joanne Shofner, a Conservative Republican candidate running for State Representative, held a meet and greet at the Fairmount store location on January 30th. The meet and greet was well attended and Joanne took the opportunity to express her position on all the major issues concerning Texans today, as well as how she differs from her competition in the race, Travis Clardy. Joanne vows to be present at all voting sessions and to always vote conservatively. She is endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott.
