Hornets Season Ends With Great Defensive Game

Body
Friday nights weather in Timpson was suitable for duck hunting, an evening by the fireplace, or defensive football. About 150 Hemphill faithful left their duck calls by the fireplace at home and made the trip in support of the Hornets as they met the Waskom Wildcats in the 1st round of the 3A II playoffs. With game time conditions of 52 degrees, steady rain, and 10-15 mph wind from the north, both teams were thankful for an artificial surface, especially with conditions deteriorating as the game progressed. The offenses struggled, the defenses ruled, and the Wildcats escaped with a 10-8 win that ended the Hornets season.

Tigers win tussle with Wolves

Body
The West Sabine Tigers hit the road this past Friday night to do battle with long time rivals San Augustine in the Wolves Den. The game got off to a bad start for the Tigers as the home standing Wolves would put 14 up before you could say boo on the strength of two long runs by their QB Cartwright. The Tigers woke up toward the end of the quarter as Jakorian Walker led them down the field, finally cashing in with a 25 yard pitch and catch with Hunter Murphy. Blaine Bourque’s conversion run made it 14-8. On the first play of the Wolves next drive, however, Cartwright would find his WR Davis for a 60 yard strike to make the score 22-6 after one.
