Spring Fling...

The Six Mile Garden Club held it’s Spring Fling plant sale this past weekend at the Six Mile VFD and the two day event brought folks out in droves. Lots of vendors were set up selling all kinds of wares to choose from for decorating your yard, home, or garden. Vendors offered inside and outside plants, bird houses of every shape and size, jams and jellies, arts and crafts, hanging chimes, interior decorating items, and how to books for gardening and tips on raising your flowers. And, if all that browsing caused you to work up and appetite, one vendor was offering hot dogs, turkey legs, and boudain.

Operation Pork Chop Week 3 and 4

Sladen Fiscus won the drawing for week three (February 27th- March 5th) of Operation Pork Chop. The winner was drawn by Precinct 2 Commissioner, Keith Nabours. Sladen is the winner $100 store credit donation from Big Tin Barn of Pineland and $100 store credit donation from Keith’s Toledo Bend Tackle of Milam. David Eddings won the drawing for week four (March 6th- 12h) of Operation Pork Chop. David is the winner of $100 store credit from CL&M Package Store of Hemphill and $100 merchandise credit to Tebo Creek Winery of Hemphill. The winner was drawn by Sabine County Treasurer, Tricia Jacks.

Landen White (pictured with boat captain Rex White) wins first place and big bass at the Hemphill Bass Club tournament on Saturday (weigh-in was at Lost Frontier boat ramp) with a 5 fish limit weighing 12.95 pounds anchored by the big bass of the tournament weighing 4.25 pounds. Nine teams competed Saturday, with three 5 fish limits brought to the scales.

National School Counseling Week 2023, will be celebrated from Feb. 6–10, 2023, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Wildcats make Pirates walk the plank

The Brookeland Lady Wildcats hit the road to Huntington to do battle with the Wells Lady Pirates in 1A bi-district action February 14. After starting off cold, the ladies heated up via a suffocating defense leading to easy buckets, and they held a 21-3 lead after the first quarter. They kept the pedal to the metal in the second quarter, popping the nets for 29 points to hold a 50-22 lead going into recess.

Hometown hope...

Softball season is a favorite for so many in Sabine County. Watching a Tiger/Hornet matchup always brings out a crowd. Last week’s match up came on Valentine’s Day and after a close four innings, the Lady Hornets scored 10 in the fifth to win 17-7. Pictured above, Coach Kelli Nobles talks up Junior Cameron Allman on third. The Lady Hornets defeated Garrison on Monday 10-4 and play in Rusk Tourney this weekend.
