Memorial Day...

Monday, the Hemphill VFW hosted a Memorial Day Service for all in Sabine County. Guest Speaker 1st Sargent Carol Waller addressed the crowd. Colors were posted, the Pledge and National Anthem were honored as well as a three round salute. Upon the folding of the flag, 1st Lt. Lucille Wright Jarrel was presented with the colors. Six Tigers who make a difference...

The West Sabine ISD and Pineland Service Club recognized teachers & students that make a difference in the lives of the students and exemplified the qualities of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service at the end of May. Congratulations to these incredible teachers and students. Six students were selected as Tigers Who Make a Difference and in turn, they were asked to honor someone who had influenced, impacted and molded their journey. When Dr. Edward Rynearson, Principal of Pittsburghs' Fifth Avenue High School, founded the original chapter of the National Honor Society, he set in motion a movement that would become the standard for High School academic achievement. One hundred and one years later, the NHS has become a worldwide organization that stresses not only academics, but community involvement by its members. The 2021-2022 class of Hemphill High School added 23 new NHS inductees, 18 Sophomores, 3 Juniors, and 2 Seniors, to the previous 51 members. Tuesday evening, Angela Iles and Kristi McDaniel supervised the ceremony as eachnewmember signed the Hemphill HS NHS Ledger, then lit a candle whichrepresented the Four Tenets of the organization...Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character...finally, repeating the NHS Pledge. Them vs Us: little people paying big oil and gas prices

Ask anyone who owns a business, or has ever owned one, what their top priorities should be. “Making a profit” should be really close to the top of the list, if not #1 on most of them. A business cannot survive without a profit, cannot pay employees, maintain infrastructure, conduct research, do all the things a business needs to do to stay in business. So, where does a business draw the line between “successful” and “taking advantage”? We are currently having this debate in public, at least some of us are. Others are bypassing the discussion and going straight for the blame, with fingers being pointed in several directions.

When it’s More Than Just A Bad Day: National Mental Health Awareness

Many of us have at least one acquaintance, even a close friend, who seems to have more than their share of days when things just don’t seem to be right. Outgoing personalities seem overly aggressive, quiet personalities go even quieter, introverts withdraw for days at a time, and questions about how they are doing are met with anger, or silence.

Top 8th grade Grads...

West Sabine Jr. High accounced their top 8th grade graduates. Emma Williams is ranked 1st in her class. Her parents are Michelle Williams and Billy Truster, grandparents Ray and Honey Wood and Rayford Welch. She plans to keep her grades up through high school, then to college and become a nurse. Trace Sowell is ranked 2nd in the class. His parents are Jamie and Amanda Sowell, grandparents Gaylon and Cindy Murray and James and Carloyn Sowell.He plans to go to Stephen F.
