Diamonds in the mud

Body
This time of forced confinement has given me lots of time to think. I thought back to many years ago. My (now deceased) husband and I were empty nesters and we decided to travel, a bit. He had always loved panning for gold in Colorado. But, there was something similar, lots closer to home. It was the Crater of Diamonds State Park, in Arkansas. At least two nice sized diamonds had been found there, in recent years. We decided to visit it.

Actor's Studio Set...

Body
When Hemphills Actors Studio issued a call for assistance with painting backdrops for the upcoming June performance they received more than they asked for. Larry Raines, the current caretaker of McMahon Chapel in north Sabine County, is more than a painter. Raines is an artist, and one of the more interesting people you could hope to spend an hour listening to. He showed up, listened to Leanne Hinkles vision, then started knocking out the scenery, turning plain plywood into backgrounds for "The Sort Of True Tale Of Robin Hood", which is NOT just another Sherwood Forrest spinoff. June 16-19, come for the entertainment, just don't forget to enjoy the scenery. Be on the lookout for a closer look into the life of Larry Raines...shoe shiner, Veteran, artist, and so much more. Fundraiser held...

Body
Pineland VFD had the grill going and the boots out on the square in Pineland Saturday, with tortilla wrapped home made sausage to hungry travelers. Melinda Blansette, owner of SMC Sales and Services in 6 Mile, stopped in to pick up lunch from Volunteer Kim Rhames. For all volunteer fire departments fund raising is an ongoing effort, with operations dependent on the success of days like this. It's up to us to do our part to support the people who will show up when we call. Reporter photo by Bill Dodson
