Teresa Weatherspoon at Statue Dedication, Louisiana Tech. Stats: National Champion, 118-14 record, Olympic Gold Medalist, 5X WNBA All-Star, #1 All-Time Assist leader in Tech history, NBA Coach for New Orleans Pelicans and now WNBA Chicago Sky Head Coach.

The Pineland Service Club met in regular session October 12 with a light agenda. The first item was a citizen’s presentation from Brian Smith of Sleep In Heavenly Peace, an organization out of Kimberly, ID that constructs beds for children ages 3-17. Smith said, “We construct beds from scratch, then deliver and assemble them at the child’s residence complete with bedding, and we are currently looking for someone to coordinate deliveries in the Sabine County area.” Scott Simmons, Mark Wright, and Richard & Donna Nichols agreed to coordinate the beds and bed materials. Smith would add, “All you have to do is go to SHPBEDS.org and sign up for a bed. Parental consent is of course needed.”

Sherrie Bumstead is coming, our missionary to Zambia, will be speaking at Community Fellowship Church 3748 Fairdale Road on Sunday October 22 2023 at 10:00 am. The Sophomore Class of HHS won their division with the Barbie Pink themed-Homecoming Float. Ken (Connor McDaniel and Barbie (Bethany Nichols) say, “Hello!” .

This fall has been stellar for Pineland native and West Sabine graduate Teresa Weatherspoon. She was in town for Pineland Day and the unveiling of the Top 100 in UIL Penants that the Tigers presented on Oct. 6. (Full details on that ceremony in next week’s edition.) Weatherspoon was glowing and grinning when she visited with the 1963 Tiger Basketball Champs and families which were also celebrated during the ceremony. You can be sure the hometown hero was on cloud nine, having recently been honored by Louisiana Tech with a statue commemorating all of her Lady Techster Greatness. Just days after the local penant dedication ceremony, the announcement came that the Chicago Sky had selected Teresa for their head coach. Below is their official press release.
