Adults and youth throughout the state have experienced the health and wellness benefits of Walk Across Texas. (Texas A&M AgriLife graphic) For more than a quarter century, the Walk Across Texas program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has been helping Texans of all ages and abilities establish the habit of regular physical activity.

At the beginning of every fall semester, Angelina College art instructors pool together their immense creative abilities in a public display of some of their recent works. AC’s Art instructors currently are displaying some of their offerings in a gallery scheduled to run through Sept.

This week we remember the day that the world stopped turning for a brief moment in time. As people watched in horror while those two towers fell, everyone knew America would never be the same. Still, this dreadful day revealed our nation’s true colors and taught us something wonderful about ourselves. America The Brave will band together in times of need. Amidst broken hearts, we stood tall and helped our fellow man along. We mourned in such a way that begged our humanity to reveal itself. This month, there are flags in the Courthouse square to remind us of this land’s bravery, liberty, and sacrifice. When you see these flags, I encourage you to take a moment to think on these words from Senator John Coryn’s newsletter.

I got my first (and only) school paddling in 1947 when I was a freshman at the Center, Texas High School. When Mrs. Menefee asked us to raise our hands if we had done our homework, everyone raised a hand…. except me…and Frank Bryan Cooper. And when she told us to “go to the office”, we both knew we were about to face “Old Smokey’ - Mr. Malone’s paddle.
