Texas Forestry Heritage Festival

The Texas Forestry Museum invites you and your family to attend it’s Heritage Skills Festival. Heritage Skill Festival is on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. At the event, guests will learn and experience heritage skills by watching live demonstrations of local crafts people woodturners, like quilters, beekeepers and participate in hands-on activities such as quick pickling. There will be plenty for the whole family to do. This is a free event and we hope to see you there! A special thank you goes to our event sponsor, Badders Law Firm, for making this event possible. City Garbage Rates Increase

The Hemphill City Council held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 20th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flags, approved the Consent Agenda, which included minutes from the previous meeting, accounts payable check register for January 2024, gas power cost adjustment of $0.057 per ccf for February 2024, and electric power cost adjustment of $0.02420 per kwh for February 2024.

New Municipal Judge

Mayor Joseph Lane administered the Oath of Office to the City of Pineland's new Municipal Judge, Jim Strickland this afternoon. Mr. Strickland is no stranger to Pineland or Sabine County as he previously served as a Teacher/Coach in both West Sabine and Hemphill ISD prior to his retirement.

Flag replacement

Body
On Tuesday, February 20th, the VFW Post 10351 changed out the weather torn flag at the Hemphill Care Center. The old flag will receive a proper disposal at a later date. Several residents of the HCC watched the ceremony with awe and reverence. If you have an old and wore out flag and wish to have it properly disposed of, contact the local VFW Post 10351.

WSISD Board calls for bond election

The WSISD Board of Trustees met in regular session February 13. Their agenda was moderate. After the minutes of the last meeting and the financial report were read into the record, the respective principals gave their monthly campus reports. Secondary campus principal Clark Barnett then stated that West Sabine would be hosting U.S. Representative Nathaniel Moran on February 22 for an archaeological dig sponsored by Texas State University.

Karate Tournament

David Roach, owner/operator of D. R. Martial Arts Academy sponsored a karate tournament on February 12th at the FBC Family Life Center in Hemphill, Texas. Karate groups from all over came to compete. Divisions were split up by age groups, 5 and below, 5 to 7, 8 to 18, and 18 through adults. Discipline and commitment were quite evident by the performance of these students of karate. The D. P. Martial Arts group faired vey well as Ryle Todd took 3rd place in sparring, Cailynn Smith took 1st place in sparring and 2nd place in kata, and Jennifer Seegers tok 1st place in aparring and 1st place in kata. Congratulations to all the competitors for a job well done!
