Texas 4-H Foundation launches $4 million fundraising campaign

A new fundraising campaign by the Texas 4-H Foundation aims to create more opportunities to prepare Texas 4-H members to become future leaders in a constantly changing society. The new 4×4 for Texas 4-H Campaign, approved by the Texas 4-H Foundation board of directors with support from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is a fouryear, $4 million campaign to support 4-H youth participating in county-, district- and state-level programs.

Deep East TX Council of Governments to celebrate 58 Years of Service

The presentation of the Ralph W. Steen East Texan of the Year Award will highlight the Annual Membership and Awards Luncheon of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG). The event will take place Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 12 noon at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin. The public is invited to attend.

Hemphill City Approves Chief of Police Job Description

The Hemphill City Council held its regular monthly meeting on June 18th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flags, approved the consent agenda. The consent agenda consisted of approval of the minutes for May 21st regular meeting and June 6th special meeting, accounts payable check register for May 2024, gas power cost adjustment of $0.072 per ccf for June 2024, and the electric power cost adjustment of $0.02420 per kwh for June 2024.

County Approves Tax Refund Requests at Court

The Sabine County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, June 24th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flag, approved the previous meetings minutes. There was only 1 line-item transfer for an expenditure for computer upgrade at the tax office, and it was approved. There were no budget amendments to consider, and all departmental reports were accepted. The Court then approved two tax refund requests by Tax Assessor/Collector office for USLBM LLC. Both had to do with a value change of items in inventory. The Court also approved a Tax refund requested by Tac Assessor/Collector office concerning Sandals & Spurs. Sandals & Spurs entered into arbitration for changing the values of some of its property, and the arbitrators sided with Sandals & Spurs.
