Thomas Jefferson Hamilton

Thomas Jefferson Hamilton 97, of Hemphill, Texas passed away at his home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer, on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Thomas was born to Henry Jefferson Hamilton and Eula Mae (Retherford) Hamilton on Sept 6, 1926, in Newton County, Texas. Thomas spent early years being raised in Newton County and later moving to Hemphill with his parents and sister. Upon marriage to his first wife, he joined the United States Army serving 2 years during World War II. Later moving to Freeport, Texas where he raised his family working at Dow Chemical and surveying for Max Hagan. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, Freeport, Texas. At that time Thomas chased his daughters while they enjoyed band, twirling, volleyball and softball. He coached and refereed softball and volleyball as well. Thomas was an avid hunter, fisherman and game conservationist in Sabine County. He raised foxhounds and loved raising and working his cows and growing a garden every year. He was a member of First Baptist Church Hemphill, Texas and served as a Deacon. He was active with RA’s as well. Thomas served on many committees and organizations such as the Texas Militia as a young boy, Lions Club, VFW post 10351 and former Commander of American Legion post 197 were just a few. He worked in the timber and survey industry in Sabine county, the oil exploration industry all over the State of Texas and Louisiana and as a Liaison to Brazoria County Commissioner Sonny Travis and Mr. Travis’ district constituents before retiring back to Sabine County. Thomas returned to Sabine County where he served 2 and one half terms as Justice of the Peace of Precinct 1 and was appointed to Justice of Peace of Precinct 2.

Billie Rose Patterson

Billie Rose (Birdwell) Patterson, 92, of Bronson passed away Saturday, Oct. 21. She was born March 10, 1931, in Bronson to parents Clarice (Crocker) and Samuel Birdwell. She and James Patterson were married in 1947 and lived in Beaumont for 33 years. Upon retirement they returned here to their farm. Their greatest joy was spending time with friends and family at their country home. They became faithful members of Pineland's First Methodist Church.

Dennis Richard Harden

Dennis Richard Harden was born October 27, 1955 in the Ponca City, OK hospital. His proud parents were Betty and Ernest Harden. Dennis attended Washington Elementary School, East Junior High and was a 1973 graduate of Ponca City High School. Dennis was a baseball player since the age of 4 where he was a pitcher and played second base. He played on the American Legion baseball team starting as a sophomore. As a sophomore and senior he played on the PoHi teams that won District and played in the State Semi-Finals. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management.

Billy B. Bradshaw

Billy B. Bradshaw, 87, of Nacogdoches, Texas was born in Lilbert, Texas on April 12, 1936 to Dewey 'Buck' and Ida Lee Bradshaw. He went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2023. Billy knew Jesus as 'the good Lord' and when asked once what would happen to him after his life was over, Billy pointed toward Heaven and said, 'I may not always show it, but I know it.' He showed it more than he knew. He was a humble man, steadfast in love, gentle and strong. He loved his family and gave his life for them to know it. He also loved deer hunting and watching bull riding. The 'pretty country' in the mountains of Colorado was his home away from home.

Oleta Faye Helton

Oleta Faye Helton, 87, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Legacies Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hemphill. Faye was born February 19, 1936 in Whitehouse, Texas to George Washington Horton and Annie Lee Williams Horton. She was a loving housewife and mother and a pastor's wife for many years. Having previously resided in Troup, Texas, she had lived in Hemphill for the past 10 years, and was a member of Camp Springs Baptist Church.

Darris Dewayne Henson

Mr. Henson ,age 51 of Hemphill departed this physical life on Oct. 7 at his residence in Hemphill. Visitation was conducted Oct. 13 at Garner & Son Mortuary Chapel. The Funeral services followed on Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Orvin Garrett officiating. Burial took place at Cedar Grove Cemetery. He is survived by Daughter, Domonique Sade’ Henson of Nacogdoches, Son, Ja’Darris Dewayne Henson of Hemphill, Mother, Martha Henson of Hemphill, Grandmother Addie Henson of Hemphill, Sisters Cheryl Grant ,Gloria Flowers ,Easter LaHoma ,Tonya(Darryle) Henson ,Na’Tasha Horn, brothers James (Melissa) Flowers III ,Zavy Turner,,James Millsap ,Randall (Daphne) Parson ,Jeremy (Charlene) Bell and a host of other friends and family.

Virginia Rae Lee

Virginia Rae Lee, 83, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Legacies Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hemphill. Virginia was born March 14, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Thomas Rayford Hollifield and Evie Pearce Hollifield. A longtime resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, she had been a resident of Sabine County for the past 6 years. She was a strong Christian lady who was friendly and outgoing, a real people person. She loved to play Bingo and watch movies and she was a loving wife and mother.
