Reba Jean Cooper
Reba Jean Cooper, 81, of Pineland, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at Harbor Hospice in Jasper. She was born July 9, 1942 in Milam, to Edward James and Lula McGown James. She was a graduate of Hemphill High School and had worked as a secretary for the Sabine County Sheriff's Office for many years. A longtime resident of Sabine County, she had moved to Fort Worth with her husband when she was only 17 years old. They returned to Pineland in 1979 where she became a member of First Baptist Church.
Reba was the best wife and mother on the planet. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed taking care of them. Everyone loved her and in return, she loved them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years and 7 months, Arlon Cooper of Pineland; daughter, Tammy Gilchrest and husband, Garnett, of Gordan; son, Tony Cooper and wife, Lisa, of Azle; sisters, Ruby Lois Dickerson of Yellowpine and Florine James Pitre of Hemphill; grandchildren, Craig Cooper, John-Marc Cooper, Julia Cooper, Dakota Joy and Garnett Caden Gilchrest; and great grandchild, Joye Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lula James; and siblings, Willard James, Mildred James Lamb, Jesse Ben James, Print Odis James, and Marvin Wayne James.
Funeral services were held Jan. 25 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Cates officiating.
Burial followed in Cooper-Harris Cemetery with Trent James, Garnett D. Gilchrest, Garnett C. Gilchrest, Norman Dew, Michael James and Paul Pitre serving as pallbearers.
