He was the beloved son of the late John Wayne McDonald, Sr., and Johnny Grantham Mc Donald. Gary spent his career as a dedicated hunting and fishing guide around Toledo Bend Lake, where he shared his passion for the outdoors with countless others. He cherished the friendships he formed during his years guiding and found immense joy in the time he spent hunting and fishing.

James Karl Bryant, 68, of Rosevine, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. Karl was born on August 7, 1956 in Pasadena, to Benny and Peggy Bryant. He later became a lifelong resident of Sabine County where he had lived since 1991. Karl was the proud owner of Action Dirt Services, Inc for 30 years. Outside of his professional endeavors, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting wild game. He also had a love of classic cars and always looked forward to attending the many antique car shows in his 1935 Chevy Panel truck with his wife Sandy and granddaughters, Brianna, and Karlynn. Karl was a devoted family man, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He made numerous memories with them over the years as the greatest PawPaw on earth!

Janis Ann Waldrop, 69, of Hemphill, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. She was born on January 4, 1956, and brought love, laughter, and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Janis was a proud and loving mother to her three children: her oldest son, John, who was born when she was just 17 and taught her resilience and strength; her middle child, Joseph Waldrop, whose thoughtful and caring nature brought her great pride and joy; and her youngest, Jodi, her daughter and source of endless laughter and joy, with whom she shared a close and special bond.

She was born on June 9, 1935, in Jasper County to Willie Mack Risinger and Bulah Hinton Risinger. A lifelong resident of Sabine County, Evangeline dedicated her career to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sabine County Hospital before retiring. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was ensuring the wellbeing of her family, especially her beloved sons.

Born on February 4, 1947, in Clear Creek, Patricia was the daughter of Oliver David and Lola Redmon. Known affectionately as Pat, she dedicated her life to caring for others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for an impressive 52 years. Her career included work in emergency rooms and later at Hemphill Care Center and Legacies Nursing and Rehab. Pat’s passion for nursing was evident in her unwavering commitment to her elderly patients, whom she cared for with compassion and dedication.

Christine Marie 'Chris' Bertrand, 72, of Hemphill, passed away at her residence on Friday, January 24, 2025. Chris was born in Beaumont, on December 21, 1952, in Fannette, to Willie and Emma Hargrave Lulue. She later became a longtime resident of Hemphill, where she had lived since 1985 after previously residing in New Rose, Louisiana. A self-employed entrepreneur, Chris was the proud owner of CSM Canvas, a business specializing in custom bags for paramedics and major sports teams. Beyond her professional endeavors, she was a devoted mother and grandmother who brought joy and love to her family.

Joe Donny Crowell, 76, of Milam, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin. Donny was born on March 31, 1948, in Beaumont, to Clenest Crowell and Betty Jo Smith Crowell. A lifelong resident of Sabine County, he dedicated 38 years of his career as the Water Plant Superintendent for the City of Hemphill. He was a member of Geneva Baptist Church and found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, and following college basketball.
