Members of the Sabine County Republican Party and community residents gathered Monday evening at The Feed Store Cafe to hear updates from Sabine River Authority of Texas Basin Regional Manager Don Iles on the continued growth and future development surrounding SRA Sabinetown Recreation Area and Toledo Bend Reservoir.

The dust flew, the stands filled shoulder-to-shoulder, and for one Saturday night in Hemphill, the Sabine County Expo was once again the center of small-town Texas tradition as the Sabine County Youth Foundation Rodeo brought together families, competitors and rodeo fans from across the area.

Sabine County 4-H members are staying active this year with a full lineup of summer workshops, livestock competitions, and outdoor educational events that continue to showcase the organization’s commitment to youth leadership and handson learning. Local 4-H leaders recently announced the 2026 Summer Day Camps schedule, offering currently enrolled members opportunities to explore agriculture, cooking, forestry, leather working, and sewing throughout the summer months.

Under clear skies (that just moments before had been cloudy and full of promised rain) and surrounded by neighbors, pastors, veterans, educators and community leaders, Sabine County residents gathered Thursday at the courthouse lawn in Hemphill for the 2026 National Day of Prayer — a moment that reflected the deep-rooted faith and hometown values that continue to define the county.

It has been a busy and meaningful week for the members of Sabine County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10351, as local veterans continued their mission of service through community outreach, leadership transitions and upcoming events honoring those who served. One of the largest efforts this week was Veterans Stand Down 2026, hosted Friday at the Sabine County VFW Hall in Hemphill.
