This group of dedicated Democrats from Sabine, San Augustine and Rusk Counties gathered April 30, to hear Congressional Candidate Jmar "J.J." Jefferson speak about the importance of leadership, fresh ideas and goals for his election to Congress. He was invited by Sabine County's Community United organization and spoke eliquently of his family, his faith and his dedication to ensure everyone has an opportunity to succeed. Sabine County Commissioners Court held a regular meeting Monday, May 9th, and after opening prayer and pledge of allegiance, accepted the minutes from the last “special” meeting. There were no Line Item Transfers or necessary Budget Amendments to be discussed.

If you have not had the great pleasure of meeting Sabine County Woman of the Year, Lucille Jarrell, you are missing out on one of the most fascinating ladies of any generation. Born Lucille Wright on Feb. 28, 1921 in Alberta, Canada, Lucille was six-years-old when the family moved to Oklahoma and began to farm. After completing school, she entered Nurse’s training in Enid, OK from 1939-1942.

Well, it's time to find out at the Ribbon Cutting this Thursday, May 12 at 11 a.m., located at 160 Main St. just off the square in Hemphill. They have only been here a few months and are making great waves. Come for popcorn and support live theater by an active group of folks in the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce.
