The eighth month of the year, the second month of summer, and the first month of the new school year. If schools didn’t take a week off every two months, school could go back to beginning after Labor Day, like it did back when kids had to walk to class. Uphill. Both ways.

SABINE COUNTY JAIL The persons named below have been charged but not proven guilty of the crimes stated. This information is obtained by written request to the Sheriff from Sabine County Reporter.

Teena Wayman a longtime Sabine County Sheriff’s Dispatcher is hanging up her dispatching career after 22 committed years to this county. Sheriff Tom Maddox presented her with a plaque for her wonderful service and stated that his office was going to truly miss her. He stated that she had been there his whole time of Sheriff and his office was truly greatful for her time and wished her the very best retirement and to not forget to stop by and say hi every one in a while. The Public Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments & Economic Development District was held on Thursday, July 28, at the First Baptist Church of Hemphill Family Life Center. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon by Board President Allison Harbison with a call of proxies and determination of a quorum.

The city council of Pineland met in regular session July 19 with a light agenda. The meeting led off with the the city of Pineland honoring all of Pineland’s Little League baseball and ASA Softball for their magnificent seasons with plaques in their honor. The first agenda item was accounts payable and after reviewing them they were passed unanimously. Next up was departmental reports and all were unanimously accepted by the council.

Making a presentation on July 27, at the Hemphill Senior Center, was First Sergeant Carol Waller (Ret.) and Quartermaster of VFW Post 10351, in honor of the Korea Armistice Day signing of the cease fire treaty on July 27, 1953.
