Robert "Bob" Smiley of Corrigan, who has had several family connections in Pineland, was recognized by Texas Funeral Directors Association (TFDA) during the organization's 136th annual convention June 12-15, 2022, in Galveston. Smiley, retired owner of Corrigan Funeral Home, was recognized for 60 years of service as a funeral director in Texas--he was licensed in March 1962 as a funeral director in Texas. Photo submitted

Hemphill First United Methodist Church hosted Vacation Bible School the week of June 13-17. The theme of the Bible School was “Food Truck Party: On a Roll with God. The theme Bible verse was Matthew 6:11 “Give us Lord our daily bread. The Bible School averaged 40 children each day in attendance. The children experienced a variety of activities each day that included opening and closing assemblies, Bible stories, discovery time, arts and crafts, recreation, reflection time, and snack. The Bible stories the children learned about were all stories based on food in the Bible such as Jesus feeding the 5000 with 5 loaves of bread and two small fish and the Israelites receiving manna from heaven while wandering in the desert.
