The second mile

Body
I know we are all tired of the rain. I asked God; why so much rain, this year? He remained quiet. Of course, He knows, what He is doing. And I might as well, accept it. So, I slipped out, to one of my favorite places, to pray and watch the continuing drizzle.

Ann Landers lives in Hemphill, this weekend only at Actors Studio-Inc

Body
Anyone over the age of 50, maybe 55, ok, maybe 60, probably remembers the “Ask Ann Landers” and “Dear Abbey” advice columns in their local papers while growing up. What people may not know is that the two hugely popular advice columnists were in reality twins sisters, Esther Pauline and Pauline Esther Friedman. Was it coincidence that the twins both began writing advice columns, and that they were the others greatest competition?

May Day! Mayday! Yes. No. May-be

Body
Sabine County Reporter Don’t call the Grammar Police, or the editor, bot May Day and Mayday are correct, for completely different reasons. Mayday, the phonetic equivalent of “M’aidez”, which is French for “help me”, came into use in 1923 when air traffic between Great Britain and France was heavy enough, and problematic enough that a distress signal simple enough to be understood by everyone was needed. S.O.S., the Morse Code equivalent of “Save me, for without your assistance, I’m toast”, had been in use since, well, since the Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail came up with the Morse Code in 1838. S.O.S. was a bit difficult to scream into a radio while in a panic, so Mayday was brought into play as a more understandable cry for help. What does this have to do

Community meeting...

Body
Community meeting #2 was held Monday evening, May 2, at the West Sabine Elementary cafeteria to discuss preparations for the future of the West Sabine School District. It was an open discussion town hall style meeting with many great ideas being brought up in preparation for the school board meeting on Tuesday evening. The main focus of the meeting was directed at fine tuning and solidifying goals as set forth in the Belief, Vision, and Mission Statements. The Statements are a roadmap of how best the WSISD can serve the students, in not only teaching them the skills needed to succeed in the world, but to achieve Intentional Excellence. More comfort for your seats...

Body
Actors Studio operators Bob and Leanne Hinkle, with Studio Patron Betty Eddleman (right) admire the completed installation of the new, much more comfortable seats, ready in time for the May 13-14 "The Lady With All The Answers." The father/son tag team of David Antilley Sr., and David Antilley, Jr., spent a lot of back bending, tedious, hours assembling and mounting the chairs, which will be appreciated by everyone attending upcoming shows.
