The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and I were finishing our supper. If anyone can put together a marvelous supper, it is she.

What if God did not take the time to bless us today, because we could not or would not take the time to thank Him for yesterday? What if God decided to stop leading us tomorrow because we did not follow Him today? What if we never saw another blooming flower because we grumbled and complained when He sent the rain and sunshine? What if God did not walk with us today because we failed to recognize, worship, praise and honor Him on His day? What if God took away His Word (the Bible) tomorrow because we would not read and study it today? What if God took away His message because we would not listen to His messenger? What if the door of the church building were closed because we would not open the door of our hearts? What if God stopped loving and caring for us because we failed to love and care for others? What if God would not hear us today because we would not listen to Him yesterday? What if God answered our prayers in the same way we answer His call for worship and service? What if God met our needs the same way that we give Him our lives? The Bible says, 'Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man sows, that will he also reap' (Galatians 6:7). Today I went to visit my Friend Brenda Guidry at the Sabine County Reporter, and we got to talking about yesterday. Twenty four hours earlier, I had stopped to drop off plastic spoons which I forgot to take in, and our conversation was cut short because I needed to pick up my husband to take him to Physical Therapy.

Today, we celebrated my granddaughter’s birthday. Her 14 years old daughter had spent last night, with me. She stayed here, to make a delicious cake, for her mother. She wanted it to be a surprise. We took it with us. And gave it to her mother, at our destination. (It seemed that their two teenagers, brother and sister, had grown up over night. After being away for a while; their young cousin saw them and cried. I asked her what was wrong. She said they are teenagers and won’t want to play with me, anymore. I assured her that they still would. And soon they were.)

On a train last summer, a young girl was fairly boiling over with indignation at a preacher who had been asking her some plain questions about her soul. 'Why, he even asked me if I was sure I was really on the road to heaven,' she said. 'He had no right to talk to me like that, and to make me feel perfectly dreadful.'

As a child, I remember my parents saying to me, 'I'm not going to tell you this again.' The only problem with that was they did tell me again. And again.

I stepped out on the back porch, to get the mop. Shaking it, I made sure there were no lizards or spiders hiding in the strings. I remembered the time that my granddaughter had unknowingly brought a lizard into the house. She had already plunged the mop into the soapy water when she saw it. Needless to say, he was bleached white and dead. I didn’t want a repeat performance.

A man was once shut up in a prison, loaded with chains, and condemned to be hung. He had been taken a prisoner in a war by a cruel tyrant and knew that there was no hope for him if he could not in some way make his escape. In the dead hour of the night, when all of his guards were sound asleep and not a footstep was to be heard around his prison, the door of his dungeon was opened, his general entered and took off his chains, and said, 'Quickly, get up and make your escape from this place. I have at immense expense and terrible exposure of my life entered this prison to save you. Follow me and I will guide you safely. But you have not a moment to lose. An hour's delay may prove forever too late.' What would you think if I told you that the prisoner said, 'Let me think about it - wait a little while.; and then actually refuse to go with him?' Who is actually to blame for that man's death? The answer is, only himself.

Lately, the temperature in Florida has topped 100°. I saw on the news that the Northeast is also hitting 100°.
