Body Good news for hunters! Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists anticipate an exceptional white-tailed deer season this fall. The 2024-25 archery-only season kicks off Sept. 28 and hunters should expect to have good harvest numbers and opportunities for quality bucks.

Body The West Sabine Tigers stayed on the road again September 20 as they took on the San Augustine Wolves in their non-district finale. After the Tigers went three and out on their first possession the Wolves QB Renfro would find his WR Berle for the 36 yard TD strike to make it 7-0.

Body The Hemphill Hornets Bass Club, represented by Anglers Caden Wright and Derek Dobbs were present at the VFW Post 10351 monthly meeting on Monday evening to explain the values and purpose of the bass club, and to ask for sponsorship help from the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars).

Body The Sabine County tradition known as the PineCone Bowl continued September 13 as the West Sabine Tigers renewed hostilities with the Hemphill Hornets in Hemphill.

Body School is back in session and Friday featured Hemphill’s first pep rally of the season. The atmosphere was electric in the Athletic Complex as all grades were in attendance to pump the Hornets up. Hemphill traveled to Kountze Friday night for a battle against the Lions.

Body Congratulations to the Lady Hornet Varsity Volleyball girls on their 3rd place finish in the Lufkin Hudson’s silver bracket. Lady hornets will be back in action at home on Tuesday vs Kirbyville. JV starts at 4:30 with varsity to follow.
