Fair to Middling

Body
You are walking down the sidewalk downtown and you meet a friend –“How’s it going, John?” you ask. “Fair to middling”, he responds. I know you have heard that phrase for a long time, but do you know for sure what it actually means? Or, from where did it originate?

Do trees have value?

Body
Dish washing is a chore that I find satisfying. I get a job done and a chance to gaze out the window without wasting time. I have a dishwasher but l’d would rather do them by hand. I enjoy watching the squirrels and birds eat at the feeders while admiring the trees that grow out there and the day itself, whether rainy or sunshiny, is in my thoughts. There are no natural oils left in my hands. Therefore, I have to wear rubber gloves for this task. Still, I don’t mind it at all. (There are other tasks that I do mind.)

Victor or Victim...

Body
Do you conquer problems or do they conquer you? It’s attitude that determines whether you are a victor or a victim. Your age, education, financial status, or social standing don’t matter. There are victors and victims from every background. Victors are not special. They are not better than others. Victors know “they can” whereas victims are convinced “they can’t.”

My sister talked to lizards

Body
“Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you...” James 4:8. The combination of sandy roads, spring branches and a plentiful food supply has made Center, Texas’ Sand Hill Community an ideal nesting place for exotic birds from Mexico and Central America. Located about six miles south of Center, Texas, it remains one of the most beautiful parts of Shelby County Texas. My Dad explored these sandy roads when he was a youngster and took all ten of us there many times as we were growing up. Instead of vacations to The Grand Canyon or Yellowstone, we made ours to The Sand Hills…to Big Ditch and Gunnel’s Cave… which were only a short drive from of our house in Center. After becoming adults, we all made frequent trips home to see Mother and to re-explore the Sand Hill roads with her.

Memories and Musings

Body
So, what is the difference between this musical instrument of four strings called either a violin or a fiddle? They appear to be identical in physical appearance, and they sound the same regardless of whether being played by a male or female, professional musician, or an amateur.
