Parade, Christmas between the Lakes, set for Saturday

The annual Hemphill Lions Club Christmas Parade and associated festivities will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2021. The Christmas spirit will be in the air when Santa arrives in Hemphill on a holiday float built at the North Pole by his helpers. Santa and Mrs. Claus are sure to be the highlight of the parade as they proceed to the courthouse square to meet the kids individually.

According to Erin Hollis with Sabine and San Augustine Counties Toys for Tots program, anyone wishing to donate a toy for a local child, may do so by dropping it off at one of the following locations: The Sabine County Reporter, Brookeshire Brothers Pineland and Hemphill, Southside Pineland and Hemphill, Ritters Lumber, Tractor Supply, Sabine State Bank, SSB Bank, BOM Bank, Toledo Bend Tackle in Fairmount, Sportsmans Cafe in Six Mile, SMC Sales SVC in Six Mile, Six Mile Marina, Chamber of Commerce, Big Tin Barn in Pineland and Pendleton Harbor VFD.

Evelyn S. Vines Bragg Turns 101

Evelyn S. Vines Bragg, born on November 8, 1921, turned 101 this year! Born and raised on a farm near M a n y , Louisiana, she grew up learning and doing most all the normal chores that is required of farm life. In 1939 she met and married George Yudell Bragg and moved to Sabine County, Texas where she has lived all her adult life. Miss Evelyn spent her life as a housewife, raising kids and helping her husband with their farm chores here in Texas. Widowed for 47 years now, she never remarried, and is still living on her own and is very active in going to church and canning jellies of all kinds. One of her other favorite past times was quilting.

November 22, 2022 Underscoring the reason the public needs to be involved in local government meetings, a recent situation came up regarding the restoration of the Callahan County courthouse. A bond was passed in 2020 after the proposal was written, plans were drawn and made public, and multiple public meetings were held to address questions and concerns.
