Evelyn S. Vines Bragg, born on November 8, 1921, turned 101 this year! Born and raised on a farm near M a n y , Louisiana, she grew up learning and doing most all the normal chores that is required of farm life. In 1939 she met and married George Yudell Bragg and moved to Sabine County, Texas where she has lived all her adult life. Miss Evelyn spent her life as a housewife, raising kids and helping her husband with their farm chores here in Texas. Widowed for 47 years now, she never remarried, and is still living on her own and is very active in going to church and canning jellies of all kinds. One of her other favorite past times was quilting.

The Pineland City Council met November 15 in regular session. Their agenda was moderate. After accepting all the departmental reports, the first agenda item was a discussion with John Brewton, Sabine County 911 Coordinator at the request of the council in regards to concerns over street addresses.

Thanksgiving Our week was spent discussing the concept of being thankful. Asking a four-year old what he/she is thankful for is a daunting experience.

Against all odds... On August 9, 1942, Navy Signalman 3rd Class Elgin Staples was aboard USS Astoria (off the coast of Guadalcanal) when the ship was attacked by Japanese cruisers.

November 22, 2022 Underscoring the reason the public needs to be involved in local government meetings, a recent situation came up regarding the restoration of the Callahan County courthouse. A bond was passed in 2020 after the proposal was written, plans were drawn and made public, and multiple public meetings were held to address questions and concerns.
