Family Day at Texas Forestry Museum

It’s been a hot summer, but you can cool off at the Texas Forestry Museum’s Family Day. Family Day is on Aug. 5 from 10a.m 12p.m. Bring your family to enjoy fun activities including a waterslide, popsicles, games, sidewalk painting, and more! We hope to see your family there and make sure to bring a towel. A special thank you to our event sponsor Davis Insurance, A Higginbotham Company. The event is free and open to the public. Photos will be taken at the event for promotional materials.The Texas Forestry Museum, a private non-profit organization, is located at 1905 Atkinson Dr. in Lufkin. Hemphill will kick off the 2023-2024 school year on August 9, and registration for the year began on July 17 and will continue to the 20. Parents should come by the HS foyer any of the 4 days and complete the forms. Doors will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

ADAC Cheers Fentanyl Crisis Laws

Members of the prevention arm of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council welcome the four new laws that will help in the state’s fight against the increasing impact of opioid fentanyl. The laws, which were passed during the 88th Regular Legislative Session, will prosecute fentanyl deaths as murder, ensure death certificates pronounce the death was caused by fentanyl, provide more NARCAN to Texas colleges and universities, and educate young Texans about the dangers of opioid misuse.

Daughters of the American Revolution Dedicate Memorial Plaque

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently unveiled and dedicated a memorial plaque in the memorial garden at its National Headquarters honoring the life and legacy of DAR member Lena Santos Ferguson (1928-2004). Mrs. Ferguson was instrumental in creating changes within DAR to help the organization become more diverse, inclusive and supportive of its members of color.

This riotous show is a fundraiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidently poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). Auditions coming July 18, 2023 @ 6pm at the Hemphill Little Theatre. Five ladies needed for this great musical comedy.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has won the Best Fair/Rodeo Award from the Academy of Country Music, for the second time! ACM announced the winners of their industry awards earlier this week and will honor recipients during the 16th Academy of Country Music Honors on Aug 23.
