Congratulations to Coach Merideth Diggles on his 100th career win Thursday, and big cheers for the Lady Hornets who defeated Woodville, 8-7 in that district matchup. As the score shows, it was a close match up and Amelia Gay had two homeruns to help secure the victory. (pictured above being welcomed home by team)

Wildcats corral Mustangs and Cage the Eagles

Both the Wildcats and the LadyCats brought their hitting shoes against Burkeville and Zavalla this past week as they dominated both schools this past week. The ladies opened against the Lady Mustangs and jumped out with a 14 run first inning on just five hits. They added nine more in the second on five more hits to cruise to a 23-0 victory. Elisabeth Lundquist spearheaded the attack going 2-4 with 4 RBI. In total six different LadyCats had hits and RBI’s.

DIDDLER ON THE ROOF

The phone call was received around dusk that summer afternoon in 1963. The caller was a neighbor who explained to my wife, Clara, that she was looking at a man on the roof of our house. I was watching television when my wife ran into the living room and announced that there was a man on top of our house. “What?”, I questioned, “someone on our roof? All kinds of questions popped into my mind. This was our newly purchased house and why would someone want to get on my roof?

We have had our adopted Mexican street cat, Felix, for a month now. “Has he bulked out?” I asked my husband, Peter, as we watched Felix, standing on his back legs and walloping the tattered mouse hanging from his sisal scratching post.

Benefit Golf Tournament returning to Cypress Bend Resort

Golfers of all skill levels are invited to hit the links for a great cause at one of the most renowned waterfront golf courses in western Louisiana and eastern Texas. On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the recently remodeled Cypress Bend Resort on Toledo Bend Lake in Many, Louisiana will host a golf tournament benefiting the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia.’ The format for the tournament is a two-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.

HCC Easter Egg Hunt

Body
The Hemphill Care Center held an Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday and kids showed up by the droves to enjoy the many games, snow cone cups, hot dogs, meeting the Easter Bunny and hunting the more than 1500 brightly colored eggs. The residents of HCC got a kick out of watching all those children having a great time as well.

The Sabine County Beekeepers will meet for our monthly meeting on Monday April 1st at 6:30pm. We meet every 1st Monday of the month at 6:30PM at the Sabine County Extension Agents office in Hemphill, located in the Brookshire Brothers parking lot next to Family Dollar. We welcome the public to come out and join us. We have no dues, or officers. This is for anyone interested in becoming a new beekeeper or an already experienced beekeeper. On Tuesday, March 19th, the Hemphill City Council held their monthly meeting, and after the opening prayer and pledge to the flags, approved the consent agenda which included: the previous meetings minutes, the accounts payable check register for February 2024, the gas power cost adjustment of $0.153 per ccf for March 2024, and the electric power cost adjustment of $0.02420 per kwh for March 2024.
