Sadly many have the idea that because everyone sins, “one little sin won’t hurt.” But, we need to learn to view sin as God does. It is filth (Revelation 3:4). It is the dirt of the world (James 1:27). It is described by the Lord like a muddy hog pen (Luke 15). Look at the graphic picture which God paints of one who has been saved going back into the world of sin. “For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state has become worse with them than the first. For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, the dog turning to it’s own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to it’s wallowing in the mire” (@ Peter 2:20-22). When we come to see sin like that, when we can see it as God sees it, we can begin to truly appreciate the cross which frees us from the guilt and practice of sin.
