Public Service Announcement - Burn Ban
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED by the Commissioners Court of Sabine County that all outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated area of the county for 7 days from the date of this Order February 25, 2026 unless the restrictions are terminated earlier based on a determination made by: (1) the Texas Forest Service that fire conditions no longer exist; or (2) the Commissioner Court or the County Judge based on a determination that the circumstances that required the Order no longer exist.

Sabine County Sheriff's Office reports that the Chambers County Sheriff's Office was dispatched over night to a vehicle fire under a river bridge near mile marker 805 on Interstate 10. Local fire departments extinguished the fire and located burned human remains inside the vehicle. Chambers County Sheriff's Office was dispatched and the body taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. The recovered vehicle matches the year model and coloring of the victim's missing truck.

The Sabine County Sheriff's Office has obtained an arrest warrant for Todd Stevens of Bronson, Texas for the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The warrant is now entered into the State and National data bases.

The Sheriff would also remind everyone that Stevens is considered armed and dangerous and if he is seen or makes contact with anyone, that those persons should immediately contact their local law enforcement.

In Monday's regular scheduled Commissioners Court, Judge Daryl Melton remarked on the passing of 24 year veteran Sheriff Tom Maddox. "A huge hole occurred with his passing. We have been taxed with appointing someone to fill it."

A local family and multiple commuities mourn the loss of 33-year-old Bryan Williams Blue. San Augustine County Investigators, along with the Texas Rangers are investigating after he was found dead in his backyard yesterday. A source close to the family says Blue, who worked nights for Hodge Trucking, was discovered by family early in the afternoon. 

Two workers dead and three life-flighted with injuries after an Oil and Gas rig burst open. What was at first reported as a rig explosion or fire has now been deemed an incident where piping  was under too much pressure and blew apart. There was no fire.

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Paul A Robbins as District Attorney of the 1st Judicial District in Sabine and San Augustine Counties for a term set to expire December 31, 2024 or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified.
