Sabine County says a final farewell to Sheriff Tom Maddox

Body
Sunday our community and a multitude of Peace Officers from around the state of Texas gathered in Pineland to say goodbye to our Sherrif, hero, legend and friend Thomas Neil Maddox. The West Sabine gym was a sea of boots and cowboy hats and I couldn’t help but picture the smile that had to put on the face of God and the face of Tom. As a kid that grew up on westerns with my dad, I was in awe. I’d never seen so many good guys under one roof. Sheriff Maddox was surely beloved in the law enforcement community. He dedicated his life to serving others. Several of his friends from the Sheriff’s Association of Texas spoke and shared fond memories as well as humerous ones. I laughed a little more than I cried which is exactly how he would have wanted it- a celebration of life.

February Chamber meeting details upcoming tournaments

Body
The Sabine County Chamber of Commerce meeting took place on Tuesday, February 11th, at the Feed Store Café. After the Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayers, the meeting quickly got underway with Frank Torres, the recently appointed Chamber Board Treasurer. He reported the committee's expenses for the month, as well as those expected for March, and provided an update on the board's pending audit, which had been quoted at $250 by Circle T Accounting for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Additionally, an extra $50 fee was discussed for monthly bookkeeping services, which would include a submitted monthly report. Matt Stewart then took center stage as the meeting's guest speaker, highlighting the upcoming Toledo Bend Bass Series tournaments. The first of eight tournaments will take place on February 22nd at Pendleton Park Bridge, followed by a two-day championship in September. With a $180 entry fee, this series will not include professional anglers or guides. However, it will feature a no-livescope tournament day, as well as polygraph testing to prevent cheating. For more information on tournament dates, registration, and sponsorship opportunities, visit their website at www.toledobendbassseries.co m. A compilation of travel adventures and misadventures by Dana Gordy Now that spring is just a month away, the birds have begun their migratory route to their summer homes, and the buds on the trees are beginning to bulge, camping is all I can think about. Hands down, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve is by far my favorite campground.
