Former branch manager sentenced

The peaceful town of Milam has been shaken by the sentencing of Haley Maxine Snodgrass, 29, former branch manager at Doches Credit Union, who admitted to misappropriating over $281,000 and has been ordered to serve 33 months in federal prison. The court also mandated restitution exceeding $330,000—a sentence that has left many in our community grappling with disbelief and sadness.

Sheriff’s Dept warns of SCAM

The Sabine County Sheriff's Office is aware of a currently circulating scam involving toll road fees. The scammers typically will send a text message advising you that there are unpaid fees associated with your vehicle. They do not list vehicle information and advise you that your license plates will be suspended, along with your driving privileges and the possibility of being arrested.

In early 1953 my father, Cecil, and my uncle, Ben Woods, opened an appliance store in a building on the east side of the square in downtown San Augustine, TX. This building is no longer standing as it was torn down when the new First National Bank building was erected.
