HLSR awards scholarship to Lane

Last week, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials announced the 493 students who received a scholarship from the organization’s educational program. These scholarships are part of the Rodeo’s $14.1 million in scholarships and total annual commitment of more than $22 million in educational funding and are awarded to students across the state of Texas-one going to Sabine County’s very own Tate Lane, West Sabine 2022 Valedictorian.

Centerview Methodist Church awarded two scholarships for the Class of 2022. Pictured above, Caleb McBride received a $500 scholarship. Caleb graduated from West Sabine High School May 27th and will be attending Panola Junior College in the fall to obtain his certification in Electrical & Instrumentation. Caleb is the son of Cody & Regina McBride and grandson of Larry & Nell McBride. Pictured below, Ethan Alvarado also received a $500 scholarship. Ethan, who graduated from Deer Park High School and will be attending Grand View College in the fall, is the grandson of Wayne and the late Linda Raney of the Centerview community. Photos submitted

Big scholarships from pennies...

We are known as the "Coin Church" Community Fellowship Church where Brother Daniel Serenil is the pastor, and we collect coins all year long and award two scholarships to two students from Hemphill High School. This year's winners are Kaden Hill and Harley Richmond. Each person will receive a $3,000.00 scholarship from our church. Winners are invited to church where they are awarded a new bible and taken to lunch. We start collecting coins that Sunday for the coming school year 2022-2023. Nichols named chair of Senate Special Committee to Protect All Texans

Yesterday, Gov. Greg Abbott sent a letter calling on the Texas Legislature to form special committees to make legislative recommendations in response to the tragic school shooting in Uvalde. That same day, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick named Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) as chair of the newly formed Senate Special Committee to Protect All Texans.

The Ronald Barlow Memorial Scholarship...

We would like to congratulate the following first recipients of the Ronald Barlow Memorial Scholarship – Bret Procella, William Pay, and Aaron Tate Lane. All three recipients have been active in agriculture and plan to continue contributing to the agricultural field beyond their high school career. Bret Procella, of Hemphill High School, plans on continuing his education at Angelina College where he will begin earning his second level welding certification and start studying diesel technology. William Pay, of Hemphill High School, intends to attend Kilgore College to earn an associate degree in diesel mechanics. And Aaron Tate Lane, of West Sabine High School, will attend Texas A&M University to earn a degree in animal science. We wish these recipients all the best with their future plans. We know that they will make great contributions to the agricultural industry and make Sabine County proud.
