HMS releases honor roll

New Location For Hemphill Yoga...

Instructor, Angie McMillan is pleased to announce the new location of Hemphill Yoga. Beginning Monday, Oct. 10, classes will be meeting in the Community Center, 200 Ash St., (behind the Hornet Gym). Parking is limited in the front, plenty of additional parking in the gym lot. Everyone is encouraged to check the Hemphill Yoga Facebook page for class styles and times, then come join the group. The Texas 4-H Youth Development Program celebrated One Day 4-H on October 8, 2022, in every county across Texas. The goal of One Day 4-H is to encourage 4-H members to take one Saturday in October to make a big impact on a big state by participating in service to their own community.

4-H learns follage...

Sarah Smith 4-H Club Manager and Channelle Svehla Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Agent gives a class at the local 4-H meeting this week in preparation of upcoming District and State competitions. Channelle taught about tree identification through studying the shapes of the leaves and placement on the stem. Sarah provided tips on photographing various plants/images using different techniques of focus, angles, light to capture more interesting photos. The kids were well engaged and had lots of fun learning. The District competition will encompass fall foliage, and the State competition will be concerning natural resources.

Community Improvement by PSC

The Pineland Service Club is always open to innovative ideas of improving the local community. During this months meeting, they agreed to enter into serious discussion and consideration of renting out a portion of a building they own for the purpose of allowing a new business, The Gymnastics Center, to move into the area. The Gymnastics Center will be the only one of its kind in Sabine County, and will be charging rates at roughly half that charged by other gymnastics classes located further away.

TBLA meets...

The TBLA (Toledo Bend Lake Association) held a meeting on Tuesday night at the SCOA Building in Toledo Town to discuss and begin preparations for their once a year Banquet Gala and Auction, which is set for April 21, 2023, and held at Cypress Bend Park again. Pictured above are Ted Dove (in the yellow shirt and leads up TBLA) and all the various chair persons tasked with each and every aspect of putting on such a huge event. Every detail of last years event was discussed and suggestions were made on how to improve for the upcoming Banquet. Ted stated that putting on the very best Banquet and Auction possible is truly a Labor of Love for each and every one of them.

Social Security COLA Raise

Roughly 70 million Americans who are on any of the various Social Security benefits programs will be getting an 8.7% raise starting with their January checks. The stats were reported on the 13th that the consumer pricing index for September was 8.2%, and after the Social Security contemplated all the data, they announced that there would be a COLA (cost of living adjustment) raise of 8.7%, the highest COLA increase in 40 years!
