Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, January 25, 2024, at San Augustine Rodeo Arena at 1109 Oaklawn Street in San Augustine, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, with the Board meeting held immediately following.Welcoming members and guests to San Augustine County will be San Augustine County Judge Jeff Boyd, Mayor Leroy Hughes, and San Augustine County Commissioners Tommy Pickard, Daniel Holman, Joey Holloway, and Steve Bryan. DETCOG’s President, San Augustine County Judge Jeff Boyd would like to extend an invitation to the meeting to all interested parties.

First ever Master Gardener Seminar held by Sabine MGA

The Sabine Master Gardener Association held its first ever Seminar this past Saturday, Jan 13, 2024 on “Seed Starting” which included a hands on exercise. Master Gardener Donna Tyree delivered an amazing lecture to over 30 participants who learned about starting seeds at home and also got to take home 4 seedlings. The response from the crowd was very positive and all had an enjoyable time!

SRA updates Chamber

The Sabine County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting at the Feed Store on Tuesday, January 9th, and opened with a prayer and pledge to the flag. There were no new members for the month of December to recognize, but there are two open spots for Board Members and nominations are being accepted and hopefully will be voted upon in the February meeting. There was discussion on how to join the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce either as individual, non-profit, or business. Discussion also included how to invest in the Chamber with various contributor level options. The Chamber will be moving into its newly renovated office space in a couple of weeks, and the Chamber meeting room will be available to be rented for various parties, meetings, and activities.

The Sabine County Reporter has been authorized to announce the candidacies of the named persons for the offices named subject to action in the MARCH 5, 2024 PRIMARY ELECTIONS. The announcement fee (which must be paid in advance) includes a statement not to exceed 250 words and photograph to run one time.
