Hemphill Bass Club tournamen

The Hemphill Hornet Bass Club held their Brndon Belt sponsored tournament out of Indian Mounds and the winners were Caden Wright and Kane Ross with a 5 fish limit weighing 11.55 lbs. Derek Dobbs and Brentley Elliott took second place with 5 fish weighing 8.55 lbs., Devyn Booker and Talan Pierce too 3rd place with 3 fish weighing 7.09 lbs. and Devyn caught the big bass of the day with a 3.92 lbs. Blake Brittain took 4th place with 2 fish weighing 4.77 lbs., While Landen White and Makenna Adkins took 6th place with 1.70 lbs. Bryson Jordan took 7th place with 1.62 lbs. Aiden Spears won the flipping contest (and $100). Congratulations to all these fine young anglers!

National Invasive Species Awareness Week Feb. 26 – March 3

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) encourages Texans to take action against invasive species that negatively impact the state’s natural resources and economy. National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW), scheduled for Feb. 26 – March 3, is an initiative to raise awareness of the threats and provide solutions on how to prevent the spread of invasive species.

Court Approves Lawn Use by Sabine County Chamber

The Sabine County Commissioners Court held its regular bi-monthly meeting on Monday, February 26th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flag, approved minutes of previous meeting, as well as accepted all departmental reports. There were several line-item transfers and budget amendments that were given approval of. They all pertained to cleaning up and closing out the books for 2023.

Texas Forestry Heritage Festival

The Texas Forestry Museum invites you and your family to attend it’s Heritage Skills Festival. Heritage Skill Festival is on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. At the event, guests will learn and experience heritage skills by watching live demonstrations of local crafts people woodturners, like quilters, beekeepers and participate in hands-on activities such as quick pickling. City Garbage Rates Increase

The Hemphill City Council held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 20th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flags, approved the Consent Agenda, which included minutes from the previous meeting, accounts payable check register for January 2024, gas power cost adjustment of $0.057 per ccf for February 2024, and electric power cost adjustment of $0.02420 per kwh for February 2024.

New Municipal Judge

Mayor Joseph Lane administered the Oath of Office to the City of Pineland's new Municipal Judge, Jim Strickland this afternoon. Mr. Strickland is no stranger to Pineland or Sabine County as he previously served as a Teacher/Coach in both West Sabine and Hemphill ISD prior to his retirement.

Flag replacement

Body
On Tuesday, February 20th, the VFW Post 10351 changed out the weather torn flag at the Hemphill Care Center. The old flag will receive a proper disposal at a later date. Several residents of the HCC watched the ceremony with awe and reverence. If you have an old and wore out flag and wish to have it properly disposed of, contact the local VFW Post 10351.
