On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the Lakes Area Cruisers donated $3,000.00 to the Sabine County Food Pantry. Angela Stewart, Executive Director of the Food Pantry expressed the organizations appreciation for the most generous gift that will be used to enhance food distribution to the citizens of Sabine County. On Friday, February 23rd there was a party held in honor of the outgoing Director of the East Sabine Senior Center, Diann Burns. Pictured above front left is New Director Tommie Jean Sullivan, outgoing Director Diann Burns, Diann's father Tommy Jacks, and (back row) sons Christian Burns and Parker Burns. A heartfelt farewell by Maurice Patteson was given, bringing smiles and tears. The large crowds enjoyed cake and punch. Diann says she is not sure yet what the next chapter of her life brings, but whatever it is, she is looking forward to each and every day.

The Pineland City Council met in regular session February 20. Their agenda was moderate. After receiving all the departmental reports the first agenda item was the ratification of the city’s Racial Profiling Report presented by Pineland Police Chief Kenny Issacks. Tracy Lane would make the ratifying motion and Echo Jordan seconded.

Japanese Elite Kyoya Fujita kicked off his second season on the Elite Series with a bang, landing an impressive 100punds, 13 ounces over four days claiming the victory at the Gamakatsu Bassmaste5r Elite at Toledo Bend. Along with the coveted century belt, an exclusive award given only to those who catch at least 100 pounds of bass in a four-day event, the Elite Series sophomore earned the $100,000 top prize and a blue trophy. Most of the week, Fujita stayed in one offshore spot in the mouth of Housen Bay and targeted prespawn bass suspended in deep standing timber. As the fishing pressure from Elite anglers and locals began to build, the bite began to suffer. When that spot began to fizzle on Day 3, he moved to the creek right above Housen and caught bass in 10 feet of water using his forward-facing sonar in the mouth of that creek.
