Baptist Church in Rosevine, her faith was an important aspect of her life.
Sue was known for her love of the outdoors, often found gardening, mowing her yard, fishing, or hunting. When indoors, she enjoyed reading, conversing, and playing 42 with her friends. Her travels with her group of friends brought her much joy.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Michelle Powell and husband, Gary, of Shepherd; Sonya Ray and husband, Dennis, also of Shepherd; and Kayla Thiessen and husband, Tom, of Combine, Texas; stepson, Kevin Smith of San Augustine; grandchildren, Tiffany Sowell and husband, Scooter, Brandy Smith, Ronnie Clark and wife, Megan, Ryan LaRue, Jacob Powell and wife, Genavie, and Matthew Powell and wife, Brittney; greatgrandchildren, Coltin, Carleigh, Kyndal, Kaylyn, Bella, Miles, Jett, Paisley, Ty, Trey, and Tanner; great-great-grandchild, Kamdin; and her beloved schnauzer, Snickers.
Her travels with her group of friends brought her much joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald Dale Smith, and her sisters, Patsy Beall and LaQuita Elliott.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas, with Bro. Don Snider officiating.
Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Matthew Powell, Jacob Powell, Ryan LaRue, Ronnie Clark, Coltin Patterson, and Scooter Sowell.
Sue's life was marked by her vibrant spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family and friends, and her deep-seated love for her community. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family and all those she touched.

Born on June 8, 1942, in San Augustine, Texas to Amos Rudolph Ledford and Juniece Menefee Ledford, Sue was a beloved figure in her community and a cherished member of her family.
