Roy Wayne Erwin, aged 84, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Huntington. Born on August 2, 1941, in Hemphill, to Cecil Erwin and Bertie Grace McDaniel Erwin, Roy spent many years in Shreveport, Louisiana, before settling in Huntington, where he lived for 46 years.
Roy served his country in the United States Army, embodying the values of dedication and service. After his military service, he worked as a welder at Lufkin Industries, where he was known for his skill and work ethic.
Roy was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as driving on backroads and exploring new sights. His love for travel and sightseeing brought him great joy throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carlyon Joyce Erwin of Huntington; daughters, Charlotte Kingsley and husband, Ned, of Broaddus, Terri Cox of Huntington, Leslie Rennels of Lufkin, and Rachel Keller of Zavalla; brother, Nathan Scott and wife, Terri, of Huntington; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Bertie Erwin, and brothers, James Erwin and Chester Erwin.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street in Hemphill, with Bro. Rex White officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Meador Cemetery in Milam, Texas, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
